DDG Says It's 'Gay' for Men to Watch 'Love Island' Alone
Rapper and streamer DDG (real name Darryl Granberry Jr.) sparked controversy with his remarks about the reality show 'Love Island.' During a livestream, he admitted he hasn't been watching the current season and gave a provocative reason.
According to DDG, watching 'Love Island' alone is a 'gay' activity. 'I haven't watched Love Island. You know why? 'Cause I don't have anybody to watch it with,' he said. The rapper added that a man who watches the show solo 'might be bisexual.'
He justified his stance by comparing the show's content—where contestants kiss and form relationships—to 'soft p-o-r-n.' DDG emphasized that for him, such entertainment, like watching 'Love Island' or going to the movies, is only appropriate with a girlfriend; otherwise, it could be perceived as a sign of non-heterosexual orientation.
The remarks come amid DDG's highly publicized breakup with singer and actress Halle Bailey. The couple, who share a one-year-old son named Halo, split after a series of scandals, including custody battles and mutual domestic violence restraining orders. They eventually reached a custody agreement and dropped their respective DVRO requests.
Fans and internet users were divided: some supported DDG, while others criticized him for homophobic stereotypes. Many pointed out that such statements seem outdated in 2024, when gender and sexual norms are more fluid.
DDG himself appears unapologetic, merely lamenting that he wants to finish the season and go to the movies but feels those activities are unacceptable without a partner. The incident has once again put him and his relationship with Halle Bailey in the spotlight.
