Bison Attack Victim Tells His Story from Hospital Bed

An elderly man attacked by a bison in Yellowstone National Park has shared his harrowing experience from a hospital bed. Carl Isom-McDaniel recorded a video warning everyone to keep a close eye on bison, as they can strike with lightning speed.

According to Carl, the animal was rolling in the dirt and showed no signs of aggression until it locked eyes on him and charged. He managed to yell at his grandson to run, then tried to escape through the trees, but the bison was quicker.

“They move faster than you could ever imagine,” the victim said, stressing that outrunning a bison on foot is impossible. The attack left Carl with a broken femur in four places, and he has already undergone surgery to repair the damage.

Notably, the bison will face no consequences: Yellowstone officials have announced they do not plan to euthanize the animal. Official guidelines recommend staying at least 75 feet away from bison, and Carl and his grandson apparently kept their distance.

However, it is mating season, and elevated testosterone levels may have contributed to the aggressive behavior. Carl hopes his story will help others avoid a similar fate, as his road to recovery will be long.

This incident has once again highlighted safety concerns in national parks, where wild animals often approach tourists closer than advisable. Experts remind that bison are unpredictable giants, and even a seemingly calm animal can attack without warning.
