Black Sabbath's Bill Ward Uses a Wheelchair

Legendary Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has revealed that he now spends most of his time in a wheelchair. The 87-year-old musician admitted that while he can still walk, he cannot go far without needing to rest.

In a message posted on X, Ward said he and his family have been using a wheelchair for about a year and a half, mostly at airports. He stressed that his talent and passion for drumming remain intact: "I can still play pretty good for 78 years old," he wrote, noting that he is in good shape.

The musician was quick to reassure fans that his mental health is fine and that the wheelchair is just a way to get around, not a sign of illness or giving up. "If you see me in a wheelchair, I'm just catching a ride, I'm not retired or ill or giving up," he stated.

Ward also added that he decided to be open with his fans because "the secrets we hide can be dangerous to our health." He promised to "keep rocking until I'm dead."

The news about Ward's health comes almost a year after the death of his bandmate, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away at 76 from a heart attack.

Black Sabbath is considered one of the pioneering bands in heavy metal, and Bill Ward was its drummer since the band's formation in 1968. His playing style has influenced countless musicians worldwide.
