Congressman Mocks Elon Musk's AI 'Odyssey' Plan

Rhode Island Congressman Gabe Amo has ridiculed Elon Musk's claim that his AI chatbot Grok will produce a "historically accurate" adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey." The politician suggests the project reflects Musk's personal fantasies rather than genuine historical insight.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill Thursday, Amo commented on Musk's promise to release a full-length version of the ancient Greek epic before year's end. The tech mogul has said his AI-generated take will stay true to both historical facts and Homer's original text.

However, Amo mocked the idea, predicting a cast of look-alikes and linking that vision to Musk's Afrikaner roots in South Africa. "Anyone who claims history has only one legitimate version doesn't understand history in the first place," the congressman argued.

Musk's announcement comes as Christopher Nolan's star-studded "Odyssey" dominates theaters, grossing over $264 million worldwide during its opening weekend. This makes the AI project particularly notable against the backdrop of traditional filmmaking.

Amo, recalling his own encounter with the epic, noted he read "The Odyssey" in ninth grade, though he admitted his homework could have been stronger. Nevertheless, he confidently gave Musk an F in history and warned about who is really teaching Grok.

The situation raises questions about AI's role in interpreting cultural heritage. Many experts believe AI adaptations of classic works could be intriguing experiments, but they are unlikely to replace human creativity, especially in complex subjects like ancient Greek mythology.
