Ex-Florida Gov Candidate Andrew Gillum Arrested with Meth and Marijuana

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum is in legal trouble again after being arrested in Alabama with a stash of drugs. Police pulled him over for erratic driving and allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

According to the police report, officers seized 3 grams of meth, 8 pre-rolled marijuana joints, 4 cut straws, 3 pipes, and a bong from Gillum during the traffic stop on U.S. Highway 98 in Daphne, Alabama. He now faces a felony charge for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor for marijuana possession.

This is not Gillum's first brush with drug-related incidents. In 2020, he was found unconscious in a hotel room at the Mondrian in South Beach, Miami. The person who found him called police fearing an overdose. Pill bottles and meth were found in the room, but prosecutors declined to charge him due to insufficient evidence linking him directly to the drugs.

Gillum was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Florida governor's race, losing to Ron DeSantis by a narrow margin of about 30,000 votes. Since then, his political career has stalled, and personal scandals have repeatedly made headlines.

The latest arrest could have severe consequences. If convicted on the felony charge, Gillum faces potential prison time and the end of any political aspirations. For the public, it's another example of a high-profile politician struggling with personal demons while once seeking the highest office in the state.
