Jordan Belfort Completes Restitution: 'Wolf of Wall Street' Finally Free

Jordan Belfort, known as the 'Wolf of Wall Street', has finally been released from court-ordered restitution payments related to his federal fraud case. According to sources, his legal obligation expired on April 28, 2026, marking the end of more than two decades of court supervision.

In a statement to TMZ, Belfort said: 'For nearly three decades, I've lived with the consequences of my past and worked every day to take responsibility for it. Today, I can finally say that I completed my court-ordered restitution. It's hard to put into words what that means. It brings a sense of closure that I've been working toward for most of my adult life.'

He added: 'I'm grateful to finally close this chapter and focus entirely on the life I've built, the lessons I've learned, and helping others avoid making the same mistakes.' These words draw a line under a saga that began with the founding of his investment firm, Stratton Oakmont.

Belfort, who founded Stratton Oakmont, pleaded guilty to securities fraud and money laundering in 1999. He was sentenced to four years in prison but served only 22 months. His story inspired Martin Scorsese's famous film 'The Wolf of Wall Street' starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The original restitution amount was set at a nine-figure sum, but the court-appointed trustee ultimately distributed a much smaller amount to 1,513 victims of the fraud before Belfort's payment obligation expired. This marked a significant step in resolving one of the biggest financial scandals of its time.

Notably, the completion of payments coincided with the release of a documentary about Belfort's past on Paramount+. Belfort was not involved in the making of this documentary, underscoring his desire to move forward and focus on the present.

For many observers, this event symbolizes the final closure of a case that has attracted public attention for decades and served as a cautionary tale for investors. Belfort, who has turned his experience into a career as a motivational speaker and author, can now fully dedicate himself to new projects.
