CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins has broken her silence after Donald Trump mocked her at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. On Friday, Collins received an award for covering the president's meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, prompting Trump to compare her to transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, known for the Bud Light ad. The former president also criticized her appearance, suggesting she smile more.

Trump doubled down on Sunday by posting a photoshopped image of Collins' face on Mulvaney's body holding Bud Light cans on Truth Social. Mulvaney had already responded gracefully, and Collins followed suit on Monday's episode of The Daily Show. She explained why she refuses to engage in a back-and-forth with the politician.

“I've always felt it's not about me, and I don't want it to be about my reaction,” Collins said. “If you let it become that, it becomes a back-and-forth between us. Instead, it's more important to remind people that when he insults me, he's criticizing my work, my questions, and the non-answers we get.” She stressed that Trump is a master at distracting from real issues.

Collins also noted the eerie silence in the room during Trump's speech, despite the presence of his staffers and allies. “I've covered Trump for 10 years, so I've heard almost all his speeches,” she said. “I wasn't surprised he insulted me—that happens regularly. But what struck me was how quiet the room was, filled with his own people.”

She urged viewers to focus on the substance of her work rather than personal attacks. Her response highlighted the importance of maintaining journalistic integrity amidst provocation. The incident has sparked debate about the treatment of female journalists by political figures.
