King Charles' Adviser Exit Won't Help Prince Harry Reconciliation

The departure of Sir Clive Alderton, King Charles III and Queen Camilla's principal private secretary, set for May 2027, has sparked speculation about a potential reconciliation between the monarch and his younger son, Prince Harry. However, royal insider Kinsey Schofield believes this will not resolve the deep-seated issues in their relationship.

Alderton, who has held the post since 2022, was previously referenced in Harry's memoir Spare under the nickname "The Wasp." Some observers suggested his exit might remove a barrier to the Duke of Sussex's reunion with the royal family. But Schofield told Page Six that such expectations are premature.

According to her, the problem runs much deeper than one adviser. "The trust deficit is far bigger than any one adviser," she emphasized. Schofield noted that decisions about reconciliation always rest with the King himself, not his staff. "Reconciliation has always depended less on who advises the King and more on whether Harry can convince his family that history won't repeat itself," she added.

The expert also pushed back against royal commentator Tom Sykes, who called Alderton's exit "a good day for Harry." Schofield disagreed: "Palace policy isn't built around one individual. The issues that fractured the relationship — trust, confidentiality, and Harry's repeated public criticism of the institution — don't disappear because one courtier is retiring."

She stressed that Harry still has a long road ahead to rebuild his reputation. "It begins with rebuilding credibility. That's something only Harry can do, and it takes time, consistency, and discretion," Schofield said. She also reminded that the King has never relied on a single adviser for family matters.

Thus, while Alderton's departure may be seen as a positive sign, experts agree that real reconciliation between Prince Harry and the royal family remains unlikely without fundamental changes in the duke's behavior. For now, the family maintains distance, and Harry's public statements only worsen the situation.
