Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Mom and Widow Fight Over Inheritance

The family drama surrounding the estate of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role in "The Cosby Show," has escalated. His mother, Pamela Warner, and his widow, Tenisha Warner, are now embroiled in a legal battle that began months before a bombshell $1.2 million lawsuit was filed. According to TMZ, the conflict erupted a few months after the actor's tragic drowning death in July 2025.

In November 2025, Tenisha filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court. She claims that the trust created by Malcolm in 1996 was never updated after the birth of his daughter MacKenzie in 2017. The actor married Tenisha in 2022, and according to the widow, he intended to provide for his new family, but due to the outdated trust, his daughter could be left without an inheritance.

Under the 1996 will, Pamela Warner is entitled to 70% of Malcolm's estate, with the remaining 30% split between his father and half-sister. Tenisha asked the court to bar Pamela from spending or distributing any of the trust funds and to amend the trust documents. The petition also included an email exchange between the legal teams, in which Malcolm's mother expressed regret over Tenisha's objections to her role as MacKenzie's representative in court.

Pamela opposed the request to amend the trust but stated she was not trying to exclude MacKenzie. Her lawyer noted, "Quite the contrary, she is very concerned about MacKenzie's well-being and future financial security." The attorney added that Pamela could not ignore her responsibilities and duties as the trust administrator.

Tenisha also alleges that Pamela received $1.2 million from life insurance benefits and Malcolm's retirement accounts, and that she sold the Los Angeles home where the widow lived with Malcolm's daughter. A guardian appointed for the children filed a separate petition, noting that Malcolm left behind at least $2 million. The guardian believes Pamela has already distributed the trust funds or is about to do so.

As TMZ previously reported, Tenisha sued Pamela in a Georgia court this week over the $1.2 million she claims is owed to her via a prenuptial agreement. The conflict between the mother and widow of the actor continues to escalate, and now its outcome will be decided in court.
