Mexico Earthquake Triggers Landslides: Video

A powerful earthquake off the coast of Mexico has triggered a series of landslides. Social media is flooded with footage showing massive amounts of earth and rocks sliding down hills, creating dangerous situations for locals.

One video, which quickly went viral, shows a truck driving down a road as a wave of mud, rocks, and dust follows behind. The driver narrowly avoids being engulfed by the landslide, but the moment is extremely tense.

Another clip captures a chandelier in a home swinging wildly from side to side due to the tremors. The person filming watches in amazement as the chandelier continues to sway for several minutes.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.3, struck off the coast of Mexico early in the morning, around 8 AM local time. It was felt in Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador, and also triggered a tsunami warning.

According to CNN, Mexico's Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, said at a press conference that there is no serious damage. However, authorities have warned that water levels may rise at some beaches and advised people to avoid the ocean for now.

According to the Chiapas Civil Protection, only three injuries have been reported so far. Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo said he has not received any reports of fatalities.

Experts note that earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region, but each time they serve as a reminder of the need to be prepared for natural disasters. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge residents to remain vigilant.
