Missing Autistic Boy Parker Wells: Calgary Police Shift Search Strategy
Calgary police have announced a change in strategy in the search for missing 11-year-old Parker Wells, who has autism. The boy disappeared on July 16, and despite a massive operation involving hundreds of officers and volunteers, his whereabouts remain unknown.
According to CTV News, the focus is now shifting from large-scale ground searches to more targeted investigative efforts. Police officials said the decision was based on operational needs and analysis of information gathered so far. Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan emphasized that the investigation is not stopping: "Our commitment is unwavering, and we will continue to pursue every available avenue to find Parker."
Acting Staff Sgt. Scott Guterson described the case as "deeply unusual and deeply concerning." He assured that every team member desperately wants to find the boy, and police will not rest until they do. However, he acknowledged that as more time passes, the chances of finding Parker alive diminish.
Over the past two weeks, investigators have assessed more than 600 tips and reviewed tens of thousands of CCTV clips from over 650 sources. Even with the tactical shift, police will continue analyzing any new information. Guterson stated: "We are not giving up. This investigation will continue for as long as it takes."
Parker's family has also appealed to the public not to lose hope. In a statement shared on social media, they urged people to keep searching and believe that he can be brought home. They clarified that the expiration of the Amber Alert does not mean the search is less urgent—it is a normal part of the system's process.
Parker is a non-verbal child with autism spectrum disorder. He is 4-foot-11 (about 150 cm) and weighs around 90 pounds (41 kg), with brown hair and brown eyes. When last seen, he was shirtless, wearing dark shorts and black noise-cancelling headphones. Police advise anyone who spots him not to approach, as he may become frightened, but to call 911 immediately.
This case has deeply affected Calgary. The search for Parker Wells has united thousands, but so far without success. Police continue their investigation, and the family hopes for a miracle. Any information could be crucial.
