NBC Fires Guard After Intruder Reaches Craig Melvin

NBC has terminated a security employee following an incident in which an outsider breached the set of the “Today” show and confronted anchor Craig Melvin. The decision to let the guard go was confirmed by sources familiar with the matter.

According to insiders, the guard was fired on Thursday after allegedly allowing the suspect to slip into Studio 1A, causing a frightening situation. Security footage, as reported by Page Six, shows two guards at the entrance: one briefly stepped away, while the other failed to notice the man entering the restricted area.

A representative for the “Today” show declined to comment on the termination. As previously reported, Andrew Truelove entered 30 Rockefeller Plaza through the show's plaza, asking staffers where to find Al Roker. However, he never reached Roker; instead, law enforcement sources say he lunged at Melvin while shouting racial slurs.

Truelove was quickly detained until NYPD arrived. Despite the alarming encounter, no one was hurt, and Craig and Al returned to the air about 15 minutes later. Later, cameras captured a heavy police presence outside 30 Rock as investigators looked into how the suspect managed to get so deep inside the building.

Truelove has been charged with hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment. The incident has sparked widespread concern and raised questions about security protocols at morning shows, where anchors often broadcast live surrounded by audiences.
