Nolan Wells' Mother Takes Legal Step Toward Potential Lawsuit Over His Mysterious Death

The mother of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, who died under mysterious circumstances, has taken a first legal step that could lead to a lawsuit. Christine Wonsley filed a petition in Jackson County Chancery Court in Mississippi, asking to be appointed administrator of her son's estate. The documents state that the estate's assets will consist "solely of claims for damages resulting from the circumstances surrounding his death."

This move gives the mother the right to file a lawsuit on behalf of the estate if anyone is found legally responsible for the young man's death. The petition was signed on the same day as Nolan's funeral, which drew hundreds of mourners.

As previously reported, the tragedy occurred on July 4: Nolan took a boat trip with friends to Horn Island, but the group returned to the mainland without him. His phone and keys remained on the boat, and his body was found on the island's shoreline two days later, close to where he was last seen. Authorities believe he drowned, but the family doubts this version and is conducting their own investigation. The official cause of death has not yet been released.

A newly surfaced video may show Nolan on the boat shortly before he vanished, potentially making it the final known image of him alive.

At Monday's funeral, Rev. Al Sharpton offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case, and announced that Tyler Perry would follow suit. The family continues to seek answers, and now they have a legal lever to pursue further action.
