Ron Harper Proud of Son Dylan After Breakout NBA Rookie Season
NBA legend Ron Harper is beaming with pride over his son Dylan Harper's impressive rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs. The five-time NBA champion admitted he is stunned by how quickly his son adapted to the professional level and exceeded all expectations.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Ron shared that he often sits in the stands and can't believe what he's watching. 'Is this really my son?' he said emotionally. 'You expect your kids to be good, but you don't expect them to overachieve like this. It's something special.'
Harper, who won five championship rings with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, noted that Dylan Harper is already performing at a level that surpasses his own at the same age. 'He's showing me up right now,' Ron joked. 'I'm so proud of him.'
Although the Spurs fell short in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, the season was far from a failure. Ron emphasized that reaching the Finals was a huge achievement for a young team with a rookie head coach and a roster full of developing players.
'It was definitely a learning experience,' Harper said. 'They have a very young team and a young coaching staff. I think they achieved their goal this season, and now the bar is set higher.' He added that the Spurs need to mature quickly and take the next step, realizing that they are now the team everyone wants to beat.
Ron warned that opponents will come at San Antonio with extra motivation next season. 'Everybody's going to be gunning for them for 82 games now,' the former star concluded. Fans are eager to see if Dylan Harper can continue his rise and lead the Spurs to greater heights.
