Tragedy in Brazil: Woman Dies in Bungee Jump After Staff Forgets to Attach Safety Cord

A devastating tragedy has struck in Brazil as 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died during a bungee jumping accident when staff forgot to attach her safety cord. The incident occurred at Ponte do Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge) in Limeira, São Paulo. Bystander video captured the horrifying moment.

According to Brazilian media, the young woman had purchased a guided tour that included a jump from the abandoned bridge to celebrate her graduation in physical education and sports management. Instead of an adrenaline-filled adventure, she faced death. Witnesses said company staff escorted her to the edge and pushed her off, but the safety rope was left on the ground.

Onlookers filming the event noticed the danger and shouted, pointing at the rope, but it was too late. Maria Eduarda fell approximately 40 meters (131 feet). Authorities have launched an investigation. Six people were questioned, and three men were arrested and charged with homicide with implied malice. Limeira's City Council is taking action, and Mayor Murilo Félix criticized longstanding safety concerns in the area, calling for accountability for lack of access control to a federal area with known risks.
