YG Detained by Police in Drakeo the Ruler Murder Case
Rapper YG found himself in the middle of a police operation in Burbank, California, on Thursday morning. According to sources, SWAT officers arrived at his property around 7 AM local time, and the musician was detained. However, he was released shortly after — the detention did not escalate into an arrest.
It turned out that police were executing a search warrant as part of the investigation into the murder of Drakeo the Ruler. The rapper, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell, was fatally shot in December 2021 backstage at a music festival in Los Angeles. YG had a prior feud with the deceased but has consistently denied any involvement in his death.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) led the operation, with Burbank SWAT providing assistance. An official CHP representative confirmed that YG was only detained for investigative purposes and then released. Details of what authorities were looking for have not been disclosed.
The incident came at a highly inconvenient time for the artist: later that evening, he was scheduled to participate in the VERZUZ battle against The Game as part of the “Compton Forever” show. The showdown between the two West Coast heavyweights was set to begin at 6:30 PM PT, and the morning police visit was clearly not part of YG's plans.
This is not YG's first encounter with Burbank law enforcement. In October 2024, he was arrested in the same city on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was found near his car, which had gone over a curb, and was charged with misdemeanor DUI.
Fans and industry insiders are closely watching the situation. It remains unclear whether the morning incident will affect YG's participation in the evening show. Organizers of VERZUZ have stated that the event will go on, but the rapper himself has not yet publicly commented.
The murder case of Drakeo the Ruler remains one of the most high-profile in the Los Angeles hip-hop community. The conflict between YG and the deceased lasted several years, and now every detail of the investigation attracts heightened attention.
