Beyoncé Reveals Touching Reason JAY-Z Grew Out His Hair

Beyoncé has finally revealed why her husband JAY-Z decided to grow out his hair — and the story is incredibly touching!

At the end of last month, the rapper surprised everyone by showing up at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia with a natural afro. For years he had long locs, so this change came as a huge shock to fans. But now Beyoncé is sharing the full story.

In a new video promoting her Cécred hair care line, the singer said the afro was a tribute to his late father, Adnis Reeves: “Everyone wants to know the details of Jay’s hair transformation… He told me a few months ago he was planning on combing out his locs for the Philly show. He wanted to do it in honor of his father.”

But that’s not all. Beyoncé added that the real reason JAY-Z grew his hair was for their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter: “I always thought it was beautiful that the real reason Jay grew out his hair was to show Blue that her hair was like his. Our daughter was about 5 and she wasn’t feeling very confident about her hair at that time. When she told her father that, it inspired Jay to grow out his hair.”

The singer also noted that her husband’s decision meant the world to her: “We really wanted her to love and embrace every inch of her gorgeous curls. It also inspired Blue to be the voice of the award-winning book Hair Love by Matthew A. Cherry.”
