Elderly Chinese Farmer Dies After Lunch with Influencer

A tragic story has emerged from China: an 81-year-old farmer named Jing died in a car accident shortly after an influencer bought all his vegetables and treated him to lunch. The video of their encounter, posted on June 25, touched millions, but the ending was shocking.

In the footage, influencer Zhang purchases all of Jing's produce — spinach, cucumbers, and eggplants. Despite Zhang's attempts to increase the weight, Jing kindly offered a discount of 0.80 yuan per kilo, resulting in a total of just 60 yuan (about $8.80). They then shared a meal of braised noodles, a luxury the farmer had never afforded before.

During lunch, Jing revealed that his eldest daughter had died by suicide 15 years ago due to depression, and he now worked to support his two grandsons. Zhang packed the leftovers for Jing to take home to his wife. However, on his way back, Jing was involved in a fatal car accident.

Jing's grandson, who recognized the story from the video, commented: "This was his last meal. And this video is his last footage. In all these years, this is the first time I saw my grandpa so happy." The family was puzzled by luxury items found at the crash site until they saw the video.

Zhang later contacted the family, shared all footage, and offered future help. The kind gesture turned into an unimaginable tragedy. Rest in peace, Jing.
