Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling Ban Smartphones for Daughters: 'Extreme' Reason

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling have a strict rule for their daughters: no smartphones allowed! The actress told the Sunday Times that their kids Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, are forbidden from using the internet under any circumstances.

“Letting my kid search something online is like telling her, ‘Just go down the street in the middle of the night. You’ll be fine,’” the 50-year-old star explained. She admits her approach might sound extreme but believes it's necessary given the dangers of the web.

The girls are homeschooled, and Mendes practices “conscious parenting,” focusing on building trust rather than issuing commands. She says she didn’t receive that kind of attention as a child and wants to break the cycle. Still, she worries her daughters might inherit her anxiety.

Eva often reminds them how lucky they are: “I explain what I didn’t have, what Ryan didn’t have, how hard we fought, living paycheck to paycheck. But they’ll never really know unless they experience it.” After hearing that, maybe no smartphone doesn’t seem so bad!
