Family of Dog Killed by LAPD Sues City

The family of Jameson, a doodle shot and killed by an LAPD officer last month during NBA Finals celebrations, has filed a lawsuit against the city. Owners Marie Marseille and Jeremiah Garcia claim the officer used "excessive and unreasonable" force, amounting to unlawful seizure, and are also suing for negligence.

The incident occurred when a neighbor called police for a welfare check after hearing screams from Marie's apartment. It turned out she was celebrating the Knicks' NBA Championship victory. During the encounter, Jameson was fatally shot. LAPD claims the dog charged at officers after Marie was told to keep him under control.

After body cam footage was released, Mayor Karen Bass called for a "thorough and transparent" investigation. LAPD Chief Michael McDonnell promised a multi-level, transparent review of the tragedy.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, including legal fees. The case has sparked public debate about police use of force in non-violent situations. The owners insist their pet posed no threat and the shooting was unjustified.
