FBI Clarifies Authenticity of Nancy Guthrie Ransom Notes

The FBI has officially stated that not all ransom notes in the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case are fake. Some may be legitimate, and the investigation continues.

In a statement, the FBI Phoenix office said: “The FBI and its task force partners have received several ransom notes over the course of this investigation. Some have been deemed to be extortion attempts without legitimacy. Other ransom demands may potentially be legitimate and are still being investigated as such.”

Earlier, Reuters reported that the FBI had deemed the notes fake, but did not specify how that conclusion was reached. Reuters claimed that one note received by TMZ and another sent to a Tucson TV station were not genuine.

However, law enforcement sources contradicted that report, and now the FBI has clarified the situation. An FBI official told Harvey: “It is more likely than not that the two ransom notes are real.” The notes were also described as “more legitimate than not.”

As previously reported, TMZ received over a dozen emails from a person claiming to know who kidnapped Savannah Guthrie's mother, demanding 1 Bitcoin in exchange for their identities. After months of silence, the person resurfaced, claiming knowledge of a hidden phone with photos and videos of the alleged kidnappers, and offered to reveal its location for 1 Bitcoin.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31, when she was kidnapped from her Arizona home. A masked man was captured on her Ring camera that night, but no developments have been made regarding her whereabouts or the kidnapper's identity.
