FDA Investigates Second Explosive Diarrhea Outbreak: New Threat Emerges

Just when you thought one explosive diarrhea outbreak was enough, another one has hit the US. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now tracking a second outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis, a parasite known for causing severe diarrhea.

The first outbreak was linked to shredded lettuce from Taylor Farms, infecting over 4,000 Americans, with 7,000 more suspected cases across nearly all 50 states. Now, a separate outbreak has sickened at least 70 people, hitting the Midwest the hardest. The source of this new outbreak remains unknown, but the FDA has launched a traceback investigation.

According to the FDA's website: 'A new outbreak of Cyclospora linked to a not yet identified product has been added to the table. FDA has initiated traceback.' The agency is working to identify the contaminated product and prevent further infections.
