Harvey Weinstein Suffers Heart Failure in Rikers Island Jail

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has suffered another major health scare while incarcerated. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ that he experienced heart failure due to pneumonia about two weeks ago at the Rikers Island jail complex in New York City.

The 72-year-old former film mogul is currently awaiting sentencing in September 2025 for a sexual assault conviction. This is not his first health crisis behind bars; Weinstein has been hospitalized multiple times in recent years for various ailments.

According to sources, Weinstein began having difficulty breathing, prompting guards to rush him to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan. Doctors there placed him on an IV, hooked him up to a heart monitor, and administered antibiotics to treat his pneumonia.

Weinstein is reportedly feeling better now, but he is not out of the woods yet. Medical staff continue to monitor his heart function and overall condition closely. The producer remains at Bellevue for ongoing treatment.

Harvey Weinstein became the face of the #MeToo movement after his 2020 conviction for rape and criminal sexual act, for which he received a 23-year sentence. In 2022, he was convicted in Los Angeles for rape and sexual assault, adding a 16-year term.

However, his New York conviction was overturned in 2024, leading to a retrial. In 2025, he was convicted again of sexual assault. The sentencing hearing for that conviction is scheduled for this September.

Weinstein's recurring health issues have sparked debates about the medical care provided to elderly inmates with chronic conditions. His legal team has previously argued for specialized treatment, but no decision has been made to transfer him to a different facility.
