NBA star Jaylen Brown has finally broken his silence after his blockbuster trade from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers. In a statement, the 29-year-old admitted he’s feeling a mix of emotions—excitement for a new challenge and disappointment at leaving the team where he won a championship.

Brown was traded on Wednesday for Paul George and draft picks, a deal widely viewed as one-sided and a steal for the Sixers. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP said he’s still processing what happened: “I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment.”

In his statement, Brown emphasized that he always gave his all for the Celtics: “I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.” He promised to cherish the relationships and memories built in Boston, especially the championship they brought to the city. However, his words hinted at possible broken promises from the front office.

“Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve invested your heart into something,” Brown said, suggesting he may have been told one thing but then traded. He stressed that he’s “big on respect” and implied he felt disrespected by the move to a conference rival.

Now, Brown is turning his focus to the Philadelphia 76ers. He vowed to earn respect in the City of Brotherly Love with the same dedication. Fans are speculating how he’ll fit alongside Joel Embiid and other stars.

Brown was the third overall pick by the Celtics in 2016. He has five All-Star appearances and two All-NBA Second Team selections. His career averages are 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. All eyes are now on whether he can replicate his success in Philadelphia.
