Jose Reyes Wants Carlos Beltran to Manage New York Mets

Former MLB star Jose Reyes has weighed in on the future of the New York Mets. According to Reyes, his top pick for the team's next manager is Carlos Beltran, who currently serves as a special assistant to the president of baseball operations.

The Mets are searching for a new skipper after parting ways with Carlos Mendoza following a 34-47 start to the season. Reyes believes Mendoza doesn't deserve all the blame—he's a great guy and a good manager—but with such a massive payroll, a change had to happen.

Interim manager Andy Green is now at the helm, and Reyes hopes he can turn things around. However, if Green doesn't work out, Reyes says Beltran is the ideal permanent replacement.

Beltran played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011, and the club plans to retire his No. 15 jersey this season alongside his Hall of Fame induction. He's already part of the organization, which would make for a smooth transition.

Reyes also mentioned that Hall of Famer Albert Pujols is interested in the job, but Reyes personally prefers Beltran. He didn't rule out Green keeping the role if he performs well.

Beyond Mets talk, Reyes discussed Knicks star OG Anunoby's ceremonial first pitch—the NBA champion is a big fan of Reyes. The pitch itself wasn't historic, but it drew attention.
